The price of battery packs has dropped substantially and is at levels where they are not a barrier to producing a modestly priced vehicle. If you have $53/kwh batteries being produced you can have a sizeable 70kwh battery and its still under $4k of the vehicle's cost. If producing a $40k vehicle then that is not 30-40% of the cost. Today's price of graphite is already factored into pricing that is delivering $53/kwh product.

Some of the new models coming out of China are "normal" looking car's but at some very sharp price points. For instance Xpeng's Mona M03 has hit the sub-$20,000 price point. Its not your 0 to 100kph in 3 seconds performance vehicle but at 7.8 seconds it still slightly better acceleration than a Toyota Corolla and that's all you really need. I'd suggest that future you suggest where EV's are competitively price with ICE's is not in the future, its here today (at least in China).
