You get attracted to these types of businesses for a host of reasons, including different risk appetites. The bottom line is only a few high risk companies are successful. The business model appears sexy, groundbreaking and “confirmation bias” leads many investors to believe they are on a winner. In the meantime, capital raises (aka shareholder subsidisation) funds some pretty good lifestyles for management.
