is there a hint of decoupling

It has long been talked about, debated and opinionated.

Lately I have sensed a certain decoupling from especially Australia and other foreign markets that we have a bit of market independence and no longer 100% blindly follow the US up and down.

Sure we are still influenced by the US, but we do have companies that still make profits, and good profits at that.

A strong resource fuelled future, profitable banks (that are cheap, otherwise why would WBC be intersred in SGB), and avoidance of a lot of sub-prime issues (sure there has been some fall-out, higher cost of funding etc., but our banks which are still very profitable, have fallen by the same or more than US and european banks that are at the center of derivative squeezes and massive write-downs/losses)

Can we grow some testicular fortitude and be a bit independent.

    I hope so.

    Any other views?
