LATERITE-TYPE (OR OXIDE- TYPE) RESOURCES ARE FOUND IN INDONESIA, THE PHILIPPINES, BRAZIL, CUBA AND NEW CALEDONIA. SULPHIDE- TYPE DEPOSITS ARE FOUND IN SOUTH AFRICA, RUSSIA AND CANADA. AUSTRALIA HAS THE BIGGEST NICKEL RESOURCES WITH BOTH SULPHIDE- AND LATERITE- TYPE ORE DEPOSITS
it makes sense - plenty of raw material, cheaper labour so lower cost of production. Strategically positioned between Pacific and Indian Oceans with access to China, India(where most EV's will be produced) and Europe and USA. While Australia has largest nickel resource, it's very dispersed and much not mined so not as much feedstock.
