How low in CO2 emissions would ESS be in mining its Li? And Latin American- mined Li, nearly all derived from brines?
Both probably lower than China, which obtains c.55% of its power from thermal coal, & another 28% from fossil fuels.
The EU has a mandated & verifiable "green passport" plan for low CO2 production of Li etc. for EV batteries from 2026 (The USA & India might possibly adopt this policy also). Would ESS Li be advantaged by this EU policy?
carscoops.com B. Anderson 23.6.23 said"More than 120 companies plan to come together to introduce ‘battery passports’ that will be based on the blockchain and allow owners to track a battery’s history. Automakers includingHondaand Ford are among the consortium, as are Nissan, Mazda, General Motors, Stellantis, andBMW.
From 2026, the European Union will require digital passports forbatteries. These passports will provide detailed digital records of that battery’s supply chain and state where its materials were sourced from, its percentage of recycled components, the amount of carbon dioxide emissions associated with it, and various human rights protections. Other major markets like the United States and India are considering the implementation of similar regulations".
