As noted by @dc1234, ESS was down as was the market.

The volume for AVZ was huge today on DRC mining licence related news. AVZ's dollar volume traded was in the top 10 and ahead of big companies like CSL, Westpac and NAB. Everone started strong. As AVZ got sold off, that appears to have set the scene for most other larger cap lithium stocks including AKE, CXO and LTR. There didn't seem to be much discrimination between in production, advanced development and explorers with a JORC resource. The minor exception was PLS that had the strength to partly recover later in the day, but they were still down.
