Thai Minister of Industry appears to have made a slip up during the course of a heated debate in Parliament yesterday
"Akara is a Thai company and Thailand owns 50%"
I interpret this as a done deal for Thailand to expropriate 49.5% of Akara in exchange for the compensation amount widely discussed in the Thai press viz 30 billion baht.
This will probably be in the form of soft loans for start up and royalty concessions over 10 years.
Makes it much easier to sell if he's offering concessions to a Thai firm.
The Thai PM wants to control the narrative framing it as a legacy of Thaksin and that he rode in to the rescue when the villagers complained and now wants to resolve the issue once and for all.
I think KCN's hands are tied here.
The deal must have been done on the condition that all announcements must emanate from the regime in the first instance.
It's a strongman govt that would hate to look weak, especially to foreigners.
