Further to my 1st post, I wonder if this subsidising of lepidolite miners is China's way of saying "up you" in relation to the generous handouts under the US's Inflation Reduction Act. The IRA is squarely aimed at the Chinese with these big handouts for downstream processing etc. IMO the IRA misses the point, it's the mines that need the finance foremost ahead of the downstream where most of this money goes.

Of course the Chinese are going to react to this massive subsidising of lithium, rare earths etc. Trouble is they might be harming themselves with this pricing causing the closure of mines which they rely on for raw materials.
