I'm not sure you can pin it all on manipulation (although likely a part of it). We tend to follow the US markets, which have been down this week.
Retail running a little scared at the moment, with interest rates going up (at least here in NZ), people have all sorts of reasons for selling.
Are they crazy - IMHO absolutely! Would I do the same if I was in their position - possibly.
