Equities markets are cyclical and go up and down like a yo-yo. Look at any of the major index charts over a long period
"Buy just after a low and Sell just after a high" is a bit of advice Rene Rivkin often repeated. IMO it was the only bit worth listening too.
The shallow thinkers who see VMT as a dud investment could learn from that.
Buying just after the low at 5c and selling half your holding 18 months later at 50c was a move that put the thinkers on free carry and left them with enough cash left over to end up with nearly twice as many shares as they started with and $0 invested.
Here's the maths.
Buying a hypothetical 2m shares at 5c back in 2019 cost $100k. Selling 1m at 50c 18 months later gets your $100k back and leaves you with $400k spare. Buy a nice toy with the $100k and do your magic with the spare $400k while waiting for the low that will inevitably follow. Just after the worm starts to turn back up sell enough of what you bought to get the $400k stake back which is in VMT's case 3.5 years on and buy 2.67m at 15c and you find yourself sitting on 3.67m shares that cost you nothing.
If you were game enough to sell the lot you would have ended up with 6,000,000 shares that cost you nothing.
Doesn't bare thinking about what the rich people could have done.
Its hard to find a dud investment that will do that for you.
