Commentary: The space Unith is entering.
"For years, big tech giants like Google and Meta invested billions into developing generative AI. But the technology did not enjoy global attention until the ambitious start-up OpenAI unveiled the DALL-E system in January 2021. DALL-E lets you generate photo-realistic images by describing what you want to see, and the success of the project inspired hundreds of tech entrepreneurs to swoop in with futuristic ideas. ​

• The latest project to gain public attention is ChatGPT It was released by OpenAI in December and it helps you write content, develop business plans and generate recipes. It also gives relationship advice and even writes code for you.​
• It’s based on a more mature breed the technology generative artificial intelligence that can generate text, images, and sounds in response to short prompts. By some accounts, it has the potential to usher in a new era of online software that lets people chat with computers like they would with humans.​
• Add it all up, and it’s easy to see why the new breed of generative AI has sparked a deal-making gold rush around generative AI start-ups.​
• Stability Al, the London-based company behind the open-source text-to-image generator Stable Diffusion, raised $101 million last year in a seed round that valued the firm at $1 billion. Jasper, a generative AI start-up that caters to the content-creation market, raised $125 million in October, valuing it at $1.5 billion. Microsoft is in talks to invest $10 billion into OpenAI after investing $1 billion in 2019 and Google is considering a $200 million investment into natural language processing startup Cohere.​
• According to PitchBook, which tracks financial activity across the industry, investors pumped at least $1.37 billion into generative AI companies across 78 deals last year. That’s as much as they invested in the last five years combined.​
• NFX reports over 450 start-ups are working on generative AI and investors and Sequoia Capital say these projects could add trillions of dollars to the economy.​
• It sure looks like an investor’s dream, but before betting the farm on generative AI companies, it helps to know how the market works."
