Background

Against the background of this development, the 17th Asia Pacific Conference of German Business in Singapore in November 2022 follows a common thread: risk diversification of German investments abroad, and that means China. The conference, chaired by Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck, was characterized by the deep uncertainty emanating from the changed political landscape in China. It is clear, and this was emphasized both by politicians and by top-class local business leaders, that China should not be abandoned as a location. However, and this WILL be THE defining economic policy of the next decade, dependence on China is to be significantly reduced. Here, of course, all stakeholders in the economy agree, despite different opinions on the details.

The aim of the Ebner Stolz China Day is to present the current situation in China and to show ways of implementing this new economic policy in business terms. In various panels and workshops, we would like to discuss comprehensive corporate issues in China, especially in the areas of investment structure in Asia, human resources management, sales and purchasing management as well as finance, taxes and compliance in China."

Lesson learned - dependency on cheap gas was a textbook example of how autocrats exploit that dependency.
