State-owned China Sinomine owns and operates the Tanco mine in Manitoba, Canada and contains about 350,000t (two-thirds of the world’s) pollucite reserves. It also owns Zimbabwe’s Bikita operation, giving it a near-monopoly on caesium mining and processing.
The entry of LPD into the caesium market will be a market-changing event. Users considering changing suppliers will be closely guarded in any announcements to ensure their China supply channel remains open.
