Avatars are only digital representations of the speaker.

A lot has been written about human and non-human like use of avatars in the virtual world.

They can be as humanlike or not depending on the wishes of the business/customer - and most importantly their effects on revenue (from a company's perspective anyway).

It's a case by base decision with the major differences being business case related. I presume that the ones used in VR1's promo are just that - promotional perspectives, and assume they can be tailored to be as life like or not - dependent on the Business Case/Customer needs. DYOR.
