I can't see Regal selling down their position. If there were a capital raising (CR) on the horizon, it might provide an opportunity for them to reaccumulate shares. However, considering we just had a CR, why would Regal sell down now? The claim that they are shorting doesn’t quite work that way. They wouldn't lend out a portion of their stock only to offload the rest of their holdings without a volume event like a CR to reaccumulate on. If they tried to buy back 6 million shares, what would happen to the stock price? They sold down during the MSCI index rebalancing and then bought 957,333 shares during Mets and MRE at prices between $15 and $21. They also participated in the $17 raise with another 911,952 shares, bringing their total to 1.86 million shares bought at an average price of around $17.50. What benefit would they get from shorting shares to $10 when their average buy price for 1.86 million shares was around $17.50? You’re quick to blame Regal, but it was retail investors via CommSec selling during Mets and MRE, which allowed Regal to scoop up those shares.
