What's crazy is that so many speculative exploration companies like RCR, RR1, MTM, MGA, SUM, CGN, and LYC are chasing the 'next WA1' narrative with niobium.
Sure, some people have made money, but many investors who aren't fully aware of the market dynamics are getting fleeced. Niobium simply doesn't have the same explosive demand as lithium, and with the reserves at Araxá and the growth at Luni, the world’s niobium needs are covered for the next two centuries.
These companies seem to be ignoring the fact that unless they have a Tier 1 deposit, there's no room for new players in this market. Plus, if they can't produce niobium for less than $15-$18 per kg, their mines won't be viable.
Even if the EV market starts using niobium batteries, the supply is already well ahead of demand. Instead of chasing niobium, they should be focusing on metals like copper.
