more likely just the other side of the game they played to clear out those who aren't serious about their hold. Exactly what happened when it went from $10 to $7.... then just turned on a dime and went to $14. A fake bot driven push down... clear the dead wood/nancies... then take it off without them so the next phase has less of them holding it up... or make them chase it up.
