I can understand if the market is lithium or nickel, which are both insanely abundant in the world. Any increase in supply and reduction in demand would’ve caused a price crash like what we are currently witnessing. Unfortunately but fortunately, not niobium. Our MD has said it himself. CBMM welcomes any increase in the supply of niobium not because the price is high, but because the lack of supply is discouraging the uptake of niobium as a new innovation in decarbonisation technology.
Put it simply, if they can get more, they will. They want to buy more, but they can’t because the only limited tier one supply is coming out of Brazil. There is not enough supply so they can’t buy more, otherwise that extra demand would’ve caused prices to go parabolic and they would need to pay an expensive price for it. Producers don’t like to buy raw materials too expensive, so they hold up until there’s more supply coming onboard.
