Reading the latest posts, it looks like everybody is longing for those import tariffs to re-inflate some life into their SYR holdings. Kind of strange for us otherwise free-trade advocates, at least if it concerns our own interests.

My thoughts on this: Trump may impose those tariffs on products he can fairly easily get elsewhere, but not on products where the US is totally dependant on China. For example, (AAM- grade) graphite.

It is the Chinese, who would retaliate by restricting graphite exports as part of an all-out trade war with the US. They already showed the torture instruments last year, when establishing those export controls.

I am not sure if that was truly a desirable scenario even for SYR holders, since most of us will have other stocks in their portfolio as well. Stocks, that we do not want to see tanking due to a trade war.

So let´s be careful regarding what we wish for.
