I find it strange that Tesla, a leader in high-tech innovation, has been slow to secure its own graphite technology. While the company pushes the boundaries of battery and AI development, it still relies on China for a critical EV component in active anode material.
If Tesla is truly committed to vertical integration and supply chain independence, why hasn’t it developed domestic graphite processing? Musk opposes tariffs for raising costs, but without investing in U.S.-based production, Tesla remains vulnerable to supply chain risks it could have mitigated.
If “he’s” concerned about supply chain stability and costs, Tesla could/should work on domestic alternatives (through a JV with Syrah?….) rather than relying on China while complaining about tariffs.
