Musk doesn‘t care, he just wants to buy as cheap as possible. Look at the Vidalia qualification process. Could he have sped it up, he, who otherwise is the king of speed and creativity? Does not look like commitment to me.
So either he considers the supply chain risk manageable, which might be understood by his proximity to Trump, or he feels he won‘t need Teslas to go to Mars or the Earth‘s orbit.
