What I feel needs to happen for Lithium demand to be back in vogue is the introduction of Lithium solid state batteries. There is always the threat that sodium solid state batteries may trump the lithium version. Solid state batteries will overcome range anxiety with up to 1000km range on a full charge, quicker charging times and there is reduced chance of them catching on fire. The technology is complicated and may be still a few years away before a commercially viable battery is available. And of course, the chinese are ahead of the rest in this technology. With the introduction of this technology, EV's will be in huge demand and should boost Lithium sales, assuming its the Lithium version which makes it first to market. In the meantime hybrid vehicles are more popular than EV's and they use less Lithium.
