The specialty chemicals company Lanxesswants to work with the IBU-tec group in the field of battery materials.In a research collaboration, both sides want to develop innovative iron oxides for producing the cathode material for LFP batteries, as Lanxess announced on Tuesday.The aim is to make lithium iron phosphate batteries (LFP) more powerful than before, for example by improving the charging speed.Financial details of the collaboration were not disclosed.According to the information, IBU-tec from Weimar is currently the only European manufacturer of LFP cathode material.Lanxess operates the world's largest iron oxide plant in Krefeld-Uerdingen.Electric car manufacturers are increasingly relying on LFP batteries because of lower costs, longer service life, higher safety and the elimination of the critical raw materials nickel and cobalt.
