--" Gold mining giant Barrick Gold Corp. (ABX) said Monday it would offer $9.2 billion in cash and stock for Placer Dome Inc. (PDG) to improve its competitive position in the industry.
The offer represents a 24% premium to Placer Dome's closing price of $16.51 and 27% more than the average closing price of the company's shares over the last 10 days".
