Lithium mining: waiting for EIA continues
There are still delays regarding lithium mining on the Koralpe. The operating company
European Lithium has once again applied to the province for a postponement of the EIA procedure.
An extension of the deadline until April 5 has been granted, according to the state of Carinthia.
March 17, 2024, 7.44 a.m.
Because European Lithium was unable to provide all the necessary documents,
a request was made to extend the deadline until the end of February.
European Lithium is now asking the state for another postponement.
Albert Kreiner, Head of Department 7 - Economy, Tourism and Mobility,
said: "The documents were not submitted, but the project applicant requested
a further extension of the deadline until April 5, 2024. The deadline extension was granted."
Managing director wants to come to Carinthia in April
The lithium project on the Koralpe has been in the news for more than a decade.
Disillusionment now prevails in the local community of Frantschach-St. Gertraud:
the mayor no longer believes in mining by the current operator and there has been radio silence since 2019
- although European Lithium denies this.
Managing Director Dietrich Wanke recently announced that he would be coming to Carinthia in April.
