@hbennett - I don't really care one way or the other, have lived in Australia, am an Australian citizen - BUT your thinking is wrong. The Austrian government did not sell the mine to TS - it was a private company which did, and T.S. did then not bother to check on environmental laws etc. because he was purely an investor, interested in a quick turn-over of an asset which he acquired cheaply, so he thought, and could then sell - fast - at a profit.
At least this is how I read this man - maybe I am wrong, but this is not the place to say more.
Except this plan is taking its time, because Austria is not some tin-pot country where you can just go mining and leave a mess after you've made your profit - it has legislation in place; environmental, financial, fiduciary etc. etc. - and then make the accusations you are making, is simply wrong, or perhaps uninformed; Austria, like the rest of Europe has/have had their day of glory and possibly are in decline, or maybe changing into yet other entities, as has happened over the centuries. But what would a white Australian know, with maybe 200 years of colonial history behind him! (and I am glad I became one of them, truly!!, but happen to know about my 'old country' too).
I don't wish for anyone to lose any money, but mining, particularly this kind of 'prospective' mining of mostly shareholders pockets is a specialised field in which the uninitiated (and I was one of them) get tripped up.
I do hope for everyone on here to get out alright and hope you have your money in other, faster-moving projects as well.
Austria and Carynthia (the county this mine is in) do not stand to gain anything from the way this project has developed with everything, including jobs, being moved elsewhere, outside the country, but the locals will only need to look out there won't be an environmental disaster left after all is said and done, and this is what these laws are designed to prevent.
