@sweatysock - the world is going that way, too - you have to find your niche - a niche filled with similar minds, look out for cultural activities, do them yourself etc. I have never felt I was missing out, perhaps now that I am older and less inclined to travel in order to see a good show etc. I do miss out a bit, but there are always books, films etc. and a few good friends you can have a good chin wag with.
My remaining European friends are too busy chasing culture, to even get a breather to find out "where in the scheme of things do I sit?"
