Carinthian lithium reduction project is now in court

As the environmental organization Virus reports, a first trial for the Carinthian Lithium reduction project is scheduled for tomorrow Tuesday at the Vienna Federal Administrative Court. UVP expert Wolfgang Rehm "In our view, it is imperative for a project that can obviously be expected to have significant environmental impacts and where dangerous chemicals are to be handled. The BVWG will hopefully correct the incomprehensible decision of the Carinthian state government that it does not require any RRP."

The Carinthian authority had denied a UVP obligation in a questionable way. In addition to virus, several other environmental organizations, a Styrian water association, one municipality in Styria and Carinthia, as well as the environmental containers of the two countries, would have appealed against this assessment notice. The Styrian participation had taken place because effects on Styria and here, in particular, drinking water uses could not be excluded. Curiously, the Carinthian authority started after the complaint period before the deadline for the appeal was made to the BVWG, with subsequent investigations. "Obviously, the realization was quickly gained that the decision was not the big hit," said Rehm. Virus was heard from the actual findings in the chemistry department that the information from the project advertisers is not consistent, but at least the handling of hazardous substances that fall under the so-called Seveso directive, as was indicated. "It is obvious that such a project needs a UVP and incomprehensible for me why you want to press with extreme time and resource effort.
