    Thanks for your response.
It’s common practice for hedge funds who are shorting to publicise their investment thesis. Shorting is risky as there is no upside for how much they can lose, they are responsible for making whole any dividends payable to the owners they have borrowed from and they are usually leveraged. They want to publicise their position to maximise selling pressure. I am on a mailing list of Kerrisdale Capital run by respected shorter Sahm Adranghi. Once they have taken a short position the email their thesis. Interested people can probably get on this list. It’s a good way to learn about investing. The effort and thought put into their work is first class. I am sure hedge fund managers also talk amongst themselves as well.
If people are interested they can look up the Soros issue I raised. Basically it was an exercise in macroeconomics but essentially the British joined prototype of the Euro which tied various European currencies to the German mark. The central banks had to actively maintain their currency within a band but the macroeconomic situation of Germany and the UK was too different and the situation was unsustainable. Soros recognised this and profited from it but wasn’t responsible for the inevitable failure of the British pound. The Europeans did not learn and created the Euro which has been disastrous for peripheral countries like Greece.
I think the level of drivel about shorting on hot copper is incredible. Earlier today we have a poster saying he considered selling his shares of this stock because Regal is shorting it when they are in fact a cornerstone investor. Simply unbelievable.
With respect to AL3 the risks relate to converting trials of sales to ongoing sales, being able to make a profit and the need for further capital raises. Any stumbles and it will be shorted. I do see people on hot copper burying their heads in the sand when the numbers don’t pan out but you have to remain vigilant eg Dubber. On the other hand the technology sounds great and I hope this example of Australian ingenuity pans out.
