Affirm's Balance Sheet is bolstered by large chunks of capital from its founder as well as institutions - it has modest debt. Klarna also has large institutional backers (and they want their money back), but it holds a banking licence from where it gets very cheap capital. Square gers $ from merchants, Cash App, Afterpay are all tied in together.

ZIP is an island. Its costs of funding are massive, its loan book matches its loan book liabilities, it has no other assets and it won't be profitable for years, if conditions are good. It has one business model which is reliant on merchant revenue for 65% of its income, authorities are cracking down on fees and while merchant fees are presently hidden, soon they won't be.

    Red flags.
