disaster! hole ruined by gas

Shocking news rocked the foundations of fledgling Australian sea hole digger MEO.
A few weeks ago the intrepid band of MEOites sailed off the north west coast settled their rig and started drilling. Hopes were high and many of us left behind were glued to our screens following every move, speculating on the results of MEO's high seas adventure.

Cyclones came and forced them ashore, but they did not give up, back they went to continue to push a large hole in to the ocean floor.

The hole got deeper and deeper and those left behind, it's always harder for those left behind, became more and more excited. The news coming back fanned that excitement. What will happen with this hole we all wondered. How deep can they go, asked others. What if fish get sucked into it, screamed some greenies.

The MEOites knew what they were doing, the hole reached many expected landmarks within metres of expectations, just as predicted. Finally the hole made its way into sand, also at a depth anticpated by the MEOites. Surprisingly the sand was at 44mtrs a little thicker than previously believed. Still all was going well, the hole was getting further away from the top of the sea and happily, no fish were harmed.

Then disaster struck. Sometime between the sunrise of the 10th of February and sunset on the 11th, it became clear that gas was surrounding the hole and in fact was all through the sand the hole was in. Worse still the sand, it is clear, covers a huge area, many many square kilometres and deep too.

Panic overtook those left behind, for whom it was all very hard. What will the MEOites do they squealed collectively.

Shaken company spokesman, Michael Eogas gave the grim news.
"We don't know how much gas is there, but there could be trillions of feet of it. We're still running tests to find out"
"Trillions of feet????" screamed the interviewer in horrified amazement, "what will you do with it all? What can you possibly do with trillions of feet of gas?"

"We don't have any options." Michael responded heavily, "If we want a proper hole, we will just have to suck it all out. We just pray to God that no-one wants to buy it off us."
