The South Australian government is thinking big. It clearly feels positive about the state’s future to capitalise on what the rest of the world wants and needs to quickly decarbonise – the proposal of what will be the biggest infrastructural project the state has ever seen: SA government to spend $100m on 'pre-feasibility study' for Northern Water desalination plant and pipeline network

Therefore, I've been wondering if RNU has had a rethink on our desalination plant now that the SA government intends to construct a massive one at Cape Hardy on the Eyre Peninsula to feed the likes of BHP and others through the state.

The proposed site for the governments desal plant is about 40 km south of Arno Bay, where RNU already has approval and plans for its own plant at Siviour. Given that the pipeline needs to travel north and cross our territory, it will be easily accessible. So, in order to potentially save money, might we utilise the Cape Hardy plant as soon as it starts up? Until we need to increase our capacity, we might produce a small plant or shrink our plant to conserve money. Additionally, this would lower our ongoing plant maintenance expenses. The economics might just add up.

You can bet that this makes RNU even more alluring.
