• Perhaps the biggest winners are businesses involved in the green transition, with major loans, investments and incentives going to the sector. There’s $19.7 billion to chase the ambitious goal of turning Australia into a renewable energy superpower via the government’s signature Future Made in Australia policy.
• There’s $7 billion in forecast new tax incentives for critical minerals, $8 billion for green hydrogen (mostly via production tax incentives) and $1.5 billion for the Australian Renewable Energy Agency. That money aims help develop new green industries alongside a $1.7 billion innovation fund that will support other renewables projects.
• Battery and solar panel makers are big beneficiaries via the $523 million Battery Breakthrough Initiative and the $835 Solar Sunshot program, designed to spur a domestic industry.
• There is $1.2 billion for critical minerals projects, largely in the form of loans, benefitting projects including the Arafura Rare Earths project in the Northern Territory and the Alpha HPA alumina project in Queensland
