Keep in mind the author of these articles is a ‘global warming skeptic’ who opposes the EV transition, and even he is concerned about China’s monopoly on PSG.

“China is just now beginning to implement an export control program for processed graphite. By controlling exports, China could, to a significant degree, adversely influence much lithium-ion battery production, such as by raising prices to selected producers or even blacklisting entire countries.

A lot has been written about China’s market power in other crucial materials like cobalt and rare earths. But, these cases are weak compared to its monopoly in processed graphite.

The policy world seems oblivious to China’s far more dangerous processed graphite monopoly.” (CFACT)

“Now, I am thinking about what might happen if China were to use that monopoly power to impose a graphite embargo on America. If we got into a big flap over Taiwan, for example.

Some interesting statistics are that roughly one-third of all battery sales are for mobile devices, one-third for “automotive” uses, and the last third for “industrial” uses. The possible military impact is especially critical because mobile communication is essential.” (CFACT)
