Chinese provinces and cities have a variety of mechanisms for approving vehicle purchases, ranging from annual limits on license plates through to lottery systems and auctions for license plates. EVs are being given preferential treatment and in some cities completely exempt from the traditional license plate allocation process.
I was recently in Shanghai and couldn't believe the change on the street both in terms of noise and air quality from when I was last there in 2019 due to the high number of EVs not just cars but also buses and trucks. Thailand is also rapidly adopting EVs particularly in Bangkok, Neta, BYD, GWM, EVs are everywhere, marketing and signage of Chinese EV brands all over the city.
It makes you wonder who the developed versus developing nations are when you see a bank of 20x 600kW EV chargers in China but in Australia our grid can barely handle a single 50kW charger in many locations particularly in regional areas.
