It's like Rick Rule says.... People have these financially sound, long term thesis they follow; which will take 5 years or more to play out. But they then employ short term strategies and get angry because (for example) 'the copper price has fallen 10% in the past X weeks but there's supposed to be a shortage / high demand', etc. Or they become bored and give up. Rick also says he's analysed his biggest winners over the decades, and all of them suffered at least a 50% drawdown at some stage. You have to be confident enough in your thesis and tenacious to stay the course.
I have (an almost) literal bottom drawer. My main portfolio has been with one of the major online brokers since the early 2000s. I make purchases regularly but might only place two or three sell orders a year. Usually trimming an overweight cyclical position like BHP at all time highs, for example, to recover some cash to re-invest elsewhere. My second account is with one of the cheap, new, discount brokerage accounts -- with a unique HIN, of course. It's for speculative mining stocks which don't pay a dividend and create confusion for my taxation accountant. Things like RNU or Chalice Mining or DeGrey (I hold neither -- just for example). That's where my Renascor shares are. Their fall in price does not affect my main portfolio at all. I login once every couple of months. I recently added some more RNU. I'm one of the dumb money investors who first bought at 31 cents
I don't recommend anyone buying or selling RNU. But I do recommend signing up for a free second account and, if you can't bear to look at RNU any more and can't bring yourself to sell either, get it out of sight and out of mind. Transfer these long term, volatile, speculative positions somewhere less annoying.
