It is an interesting point you make about the IRA, and that view is now gaining recognition.
“… Albemarle says the [IRA] has not accelerated the buildout of a supply chain down to the minerals sector. Rich Nolan, president of the National Mining Association, called for a ‘more aggressive and holistic approach’ to boost domestic production, including ‘stockpiles, offtake backstops, [and] advance market commitments.” (Link)
And I believe that is all part of what will be revealed very soon as the critical minerals marketplace.
Yesterday, the outgoing US Ambassador to Australia made mention of this at the National Press Club.
“We’ve allowed ourselves to become dependant on one country for processing, and we need to break this chokehold … We need to accelerate the work of the Critical Minerals Task Force, which is focused on market-based solutions. We need to map and build trusted supply chains, stockpile critical minerals … and create a high standards marketplace.“ (Link)
Her comments reiterate earlier reports that downstream operations will be a strong focus of the marketplace.
“The marketplace will likely seek to pull some capacity on mineral processing and refinement away from China.” (Link)
This will be a game-changer for the sector and RNU must be a major priority in this initiative.
