And as you pointed out earlier, the US has imposed tariffs on synthetic graphite whilst natural graphite is exempt. Since, China has a near monopoly of 99 % synthetic graphite of supply, it will be subjected to the 54% reciprocal tariff increase come a few days time - 9 April.

China will not be able to continue to sustain its subsidisation of the synthetic material and may then switch to a more cost-efficient natural. When the west discovers there isn't enough supply for it from China which controls 97% of market supply, the shortage might happen much sooner.
