Technically, Australia is in caretaker mode because of an election. Therefore, Jim Chalmers meeting with South Korea's finance minister during these times is unprecedented, let alone to strike some kind of a deal so quickly.
There is no doubt that since the White House has imposed tariffs on the world, China has doubled-down and re-shaped its ties with Africa. There's something in the works and maybe Black Rock's trading halt will reveal the reality of it.
Chalmers may have divulged the details to the SK minister of the Critical Minerals resource reserve's modelling that they are about to announce. The specifics are not yet available but I suspect we will find out very soon.
