'We are a solution to a problem', AMEC chief Warren Pearce, AFR story
Australia and its substantial reserves of critical minerals will quickly emerge as the preferred supply chain for Western global corporations. For its stable mining jurisdictions, ESG crediticals and as a result has minimal to no sovereign risk.
As the US and China trade war escalates, outside of Australia there isn't much else. Australia is the only obvious option available to the West. All the other options, such as the fact that many developing countries have already established life long connections with Chinese lenders and investors are proving to be more and more too risky an investment. One of the reasons is that, unlike Australia, most developing countries do not have a powerful lobbying and advocacy organisation like the Association of Mining and Exploration Companies (AMEC). This demonstrates our level of sophistication.
For investors, negotiating an increasingly geopolitical world that is a defining difference in risk, in my opinion. Otherwise, the nation is left to the influence of different interest groups via opposing channels. This has happened countless times to Australian companies who have invested in African nations, Syrah, Sundance, to name a few.
Australia is an example of a sophisticated mining destination that has evolved. AMEC and our Resources minister Madelaiene King are on the ball with the announcement of a Critical Minerals' stockpile to kickstart new investments should they win the coming election. Australia's GDP in 2024 was approx. $1.79 trillion (USD) so we have the enviable finances that developing nations lack at this crucial junction in time.
For graphite and PSG, there is no one else as advanced and ready to supply but RNU.
