    Hi Bishkek, the 16% really only applies to profits/dividends as opposed to many Australian native title payments which are often as a royalty based on sales. You refer to it as payments for nothing, but at the end of the day the Govt owns the resource, so all part of the reform process I mentioned in an earlier post.

    Yes the 16% only applies to profits / Dividends however the Tanzanian government also charges a 30% Corporate tax applied to taxable profits on the Epanko project so all in, quite a sizable chunk out of your profit margin, along with all the other risks associated with doing business in Africa.
