POSCO Future M breaks with China in cathode supply chain

The EU is far behind in developing an anode industry and does not currently have one. Many years will pass before they are fully equipped and prepared to supply. Therefore, the supply of raw materials is not likely to happen anytime soon, but that doesn't mean it won't happen.

Conversely, Japan and South Korea have a well-established anode industry and are now showing indications of expanding on it, especially since, Australia and South Korea have had certainty with their elections. Many Africa nations have uncertainty as they go to the poles in the next 6 months to over a year's time.

Thankfully, RNU’s resource is in the right region and as a soveriegn-trusted partner, it is ready to supply. As of yesterday's story, POSCO created a milestone in the company’s efforts to reduce reliance on Chinese suppliers and fortify its position in the global electric-vehicle battery market.

Additionally, it is anticipated that the action will improve POSCO's eligibility for US and EU tax credits. To complete the picture, add PSG anode material from RNU, which makes up the other half of the battery, and then we can say a new supply chain has begun.
