Recycling them is exactly what Neometals (NMT) is in the early stages of doing just that. They have formed a joint venture partnership with German SMS group and called it PRIMOBIUS. (check out their website for videos etc) They have built a 20,000 ton p/a demonstration plant being commissioned right now in Germany. Results will start to flow July/August. The major battery makers will be invited to send their early stage failed batteries to them and receive around 90% of recycled battery materials to re-make new batteries. When the "bugs" are ironed out, SMS has capacity to build 200 ton plus replicas anywhere in the world as demand builds. There is a positive enquirery from the USA already.
