As I write, Australian policymakers and government officials is playing hard-to-get with the European Union (EU) on a trade deal as they scramble to secure the critical minerals amongst other things. The EU may want to have its cake and eat it too, however, Australia is in the box seat and resources minister Madeline King is showing that she knows Australia comes from a position of strength, “I hope that the EU can understand that and perhaps show some greater respect for the Australian resources sector.” source

The facts are that the EU, in particular, is 20 years plus behind China on Critical Minerals supply and manufacturing. With Big American and Asian car manufacturers already securing long-term offtake agreements for several Aussie lithium miners, European car makers are lacking in their efforts to invest in Australian mines. If UBS prediction of a graphite price surge of 50% upside to current pricing of US$570 to a long-term price at US$850/t, the stage is set for a very interesting month or so.

Combine all this with the Albanese Government set to kickstart a 'battery manufacturing industry' shortly after the referendum (14 October). The Aussie kangaroo could jumping on many levels.
