This week, Madeleine King's will be in Canada and the United States for the global mining conference and high-level talks on critical minerals. This should bring with it positive news and outcomes.
"It is of vital importance to the Australian resources and mineral processing industry that international pricing reflects the high ESG standards and commitment to sound workplace safety and worker conditions that all countries should aspire to.
"Consumers and investors around the world, seeking to reduce their carbon footprint and invest in green technology should have the opportunity to know their choices don't sacrifice high environmental, social and governance standards.
"The prices paid for our minerals need to recognise that Australian workers enjoy the best conditions and the highest safety standards. See full article
Global governments understand the geopolitical landscape of today. Nobody can afford to place themselves in Germany's shoes, which relied on Russia for inexpensive natural gas, as you would eventually have to pay a high price for such an inexpensive pricing strategy. As a result, it is now considered much preferable to spread out the genuine costs of a life of mine project including a fair value for high ESG standards. This is the only way to build reliant supply chains.
Now, with China's complete dominance of battery-grade graphite and recently imposed restrictions, it has become a situation similar to that of rare earths in 2010, when Japanese firms were compelled to provide Lynas with help until they could sustain themselves. However, Lynas didn't go far enough. It outsourced it's downstream processing to Malaysia which has lead to a drop in output and issues that they are presently attempting to regain. So, you can solve one problem but create another.
RNU's BAM project plans to go one better. It's objective is to surpass Lynas by upstreaming (mine and concentrates) and downstream (PSG facility) all in-country. Thus solving long term problems and creating a robust supply chain.
FOMO remains with the anode players.
