the provinces of Saudi Arabia - from the Emirate of the Riyadh to the Northern Borders and Qassim Province, are well aware of the need to evolve beyond oil and a reliance of the flow of petro-dollars. they are aware that any transition away from global fossil fuels usage to renewable sources of energy will leave them vulnerable. they are aware that the depleting oil reserves beneath their lands could one day rank in economic value equal to little more than the sand that has covered since the dawn of time. they are aware that the economic wealth they have experienced over the last 70 years could cease to exit. multibillion dollar sovereign wealth investment of the proceeds of their non-renewable natural asset extraction programs support this. investment in wind and solar projects and expansion into critical rare mineral extraction investment further emphasise this awareness. state sponsored investment in tourism and global sport adds to this. the challenge though is for us as a country to find a balance between our national security interests, climate and environmental sustainability and our preconceptions of foreign investment. the challenge for us is to productively navigate the red tape and tp balance the extremes in perspectives of multiple vested local interest groups. failure to do so imo will result in any short to medium term investment by middle eastern nations as being more likely to be through investment in AU listed companies operating in the mineral rich provinces of West Africa rather than in those companies operating within Australia. could be wrong though. often am.
