One of the things which is marked in south east queensland in the past 20 years or so is the enormous, irresponsible number of subdivisions and sprawling housing developments which have been permitted with the collusion of government, both state and local without considering the impact on water supplies and the need for other infrastructure, particularly health services.

Southerners sell their inner city slums, move up and buy up cheaply, with hundreds of thousands left over. Our house prices are far too low and we are easy prey to these opportunistic marauders. It would be a small price to pay to re-introduce death duties to encourage 'em to stay out - the majority moving up are over the age of 60, and are a huge slug on our already ailing health and community facilities.
