From memory they did do some design changes a few years ago to increase the capacity,
I would assume the only logical way to increase capacity after construction would be to drain both pits and make both pits bigger sideways and not move the turbine. This would be limited by the geology and money. Suppose it would involve blasting rock. Not the best thing for cured concrete or detailed engineering.
probably easier to wait for another gold mine to come up and cheeply take over their remedial liabilty. Remember they saved circa 600million by doing this.
