Batteries have a certain number of cycles they can do before they are fried.
That cost is onto of their round trip losses (which IIRC are bit lower)

I think its still true the minimum level of cost arbitrage that PHS can make prfit at is lower than a battery.

That is one of the reasons that even though they have hours of storage and you only need less than that to do FCAS.
They still dont cycle batteries a lot chasing daily peaks unless the peaks are large.
So they will still pitch in for some cream during the largest summer peaks. or any of the other times prices spike towards 10k per MWH.

Which happen more often than people might think there is a good reason for.
