Even makign hydrogen converting to fuel themn l;ater buring it. Whil;e really bloody expensive and very lossy way to stor eenergy does provide method that can accumulate energy in 2030 and again in 2031 and then finally only be discharged (as an energy storage in 2032) if that the pattern of good and bad years for wind and solar plays out. It ability to store very large quantities of energy very cheaply or a very long time willbe unmatched even by PHS, or even grand PHS schemes like Snowy II or BOTN. That can carve it out a specialist niche.
batteries and PHS have other properties and each of those IMO is likely to carve out a part of the problem each solves best.
